About Redwoods
Why Redwoods Exists
Redwoods was founded in 2024 to be the climate intelligence and advisory service for philanthropic professionals, one that respects their trusted donor relationships while addressing the barriers and complexity that slows climate giving down. We believe that when advisors have the right resources and tailored support, more money moves, faster, and with greater impact.
Our Methods
Redwoods aggregates research, strategies, solutions, and diligence from the most experienced climate funders and evaluators in the field. They bring deep expertise, rigorous selection criteria, and up-to-date view, as they currently fund the climate non-profits we showcase.
Every solution is evaluated against a consistent set of criteria:
- Scalable impact potential
- Proven track record and clear theory of change
- Strong leadership and organizational health
- Additionality of philanthropic dollars to fill a gap or accelerate momentum
We don't work from a single framework.
Instead, we draw on the best thinking in the field to ensure every opportunity we surface represents a meaningful, high-conviction place to fund. The result is a synthesized and evolving view across the field's leading expertise.
Our intelligence
partners include:
Climate Lead, ClimateWorks Foundation, Giving Green, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Grantham Foundation, High Tide Foundation, Mulago Foundation, Project Drawdown, Skoll Foundation, U.S Energy Foundation, Walton Family Foundation, and more.
FAQs
Who is Redwoods for?
Redwoods is for philanthropic professionals: advisors at advisory firms, donor advised funds (DAFs), community foundations, banks and wealth management firms, staff at single family offices and lean foundations, multi-family office advisors, and independent philanthropic advisors. We work with those who have the capacity to direct $500K-$20M/year to climate. In select cases, we can work directly with donors.
What does membership cost?
It's free. Redwoods overhead is covered by philanthropic supporters who believe Redwoods can be a force multiplier for climate funding, so every dollar that goes to our modest operations helps move many more to climate through the services we provide. In return for receiving our services at no cost, we require our members to share feedback and let us know when they move funding to opportunities we surface, so we can keep improving and tracking our impact. We will never ask for personal client or donor information.
How do I know my climate gift will have real impact?
Every opportunity on our platform has been evaluated against rigorous criteria by the field's leading climate funders - so you can give with confidence. Our methods section above explains how we assess and curate what we recommend.
How often do the materials update?
We add and update opportunities on a rolling basis. Diligence materials are refreshed at least every 12 months.
What if I'm new to climate?
Good, welcome! That's exactly who we built this for. You don't need to arrive as a climate expert. We provide the context, education, and support to help you build that expertise over time. We can work with people at various levels of comfortability with climate.
